Item ideas

Postby nienne » Fri Nov 06, 2009 10:56 pm

Going to leave this open as a general topic, since over my time imming there's been a lot of players with a lot of good ideas, several of which have seen their way into permanent mud code. Usually these would have gone via avmail; avmail has a fairly fast turnover, so for things like this that may take time before an imm has somewhere available to add them to the game, holding them here is perhaps better. Feel free to submit any ideas you may have for in-game items; usually this covers equipment items (clothes/armor/weapons) but occasionally some fun toys as well ;) Post as much or as little detail as you like; hopefully other imms can browse here and may come across ideas they can implement for you, or discuss with you directly if they want to know more :)

Hey,

All spellcasters have probably felt the effects of thieves powder. I suggest an item to counter the blinding effect, a pair of protective goggles or something like it. You might still inhale the powder and get stunned while you cough your lungs clean.

100% protection is too much, but perhaps 30-50% chance of avoiding the blinding effect. I see that this might be too powerful tool for a spellcaster but still... How much does the blindness affect melee classes? I have no idea, but they seem to be quite effective even when blinded. Perhaps this would balance it out more?

What do you think?

Powder sucks no-matter who gets hit by it. Fighters, like mages, are stunned and blinded. Also like mages, fighters cannot use aimed abilities like knockdown, shieldbash, rush, so on and so on.

I believe mages can still teleport and use contingency, right?

Powder already has a chance to miss, but perhaps instead of an anti-powder goggles, some diminishing returns on powder would be nice. Though I don't know if its codeable.

One thing I'd like to see is like a 'bottomless' belt pouch.

Not bottomless literally, but one that holds more than it should. Like a bag of holding, but permenant :)

There are permanent bags of holding in-game... they're just well guarded :P

Powder does suck for everyone - if anything, melee equally since you can still cast (non-targetted) spells while powdered, but you can't swing a weapon at all. So I dunno that casters have it all that bad...

Hey,

I just wanted to point out that most of the melee people have so high dex that they aren't even stunned one single round after being hit by powder. Straight to their feet blasting away with attacks. Dunno if that is equal to being able to cast the few non offensive spells?

Honestly, getting hit in the eyes and being stunned through sheer pain and blindness is less of a dex check, more of a constitution check in my opinion.

As you've already been hit by the 'poison' (lets call it poison for arguments sake) I think it would be sheer grit that lets you overcome the pain and effect. The most you could do with high dex is flop around like a more dramatic fish :)

I think the best they can do here is swing back, not target someone specifically, and I believe they're swinging at a rather huge penalty. I'll have to check on this...

How about a shield that alters the reflection feat? Instead of bouncing the spell back at the caster, it absorbs the magic and heals the wearer instead.

How about something that makes me able to resist any effect I dont like, heals me in the process and damages my opponents?

Or...

A case for crafting materials (that can only hold a certain type specifically skins/bolts/billets/blocks) along the lines of pouches for gems or cases for scrolls.
I dont know about any other would be smiths but I have three sacks full and something a little more space economic would be dandy.

Something similar in form and use to kits that restores vitality. Pricey, though.

Sheaths that dont look like sheaths, a boot you can sheath a dagger in, a bodice. they wouldnt even need to be magical. Alternatively, a quiver that can hold many more arrows, something that looks/weighs like a dagger sheath but it can hold any size weapon a 'sheath of holding' so to speak. Something I made on another mud, gloves that were a magical sheath. You would wear them and the weapon you held would disappear into an extradimensional space, reappearing at will. (just used the normal 'sheath' and 'draw ' commands, codely it was just a normal sheath)

a backpack I can wear, damnit.

pants with pockets

a rocketpack? Nah.
